About Elise

Hi, I bring a lifelong interest in health and the body, meaning in life and spirituality to my work as a Somatic Psychotherapist and Supervisor working in Glasgow, Scotland and online nationally and Internationally.

I've been interested in people, communication and existential questions around meaning in life for as long as I can remember. This led me on an interesting journey which included studying for an MA in Russian Language and Literature, teaching English as a foreign language to children in Russia and Hong Kong, training as a person centred-counsellor and supervisor and working as a massage therapist and as a yoga teacher. I've worked in a range of settings including homelessness, sexual abuse, addictions, mental health, bereavement, violence against women, with survivors of torture, asylum seekers and refugees and with people affected by vicarious trauma.

I qualified as a counsellor in 2005 and as a supervisor in 2013, both at Strathclyde University. I qualified in EMDR to level three in 2016 with EMDR Academy. I have also trained in systemic and family therapy.

More recently I have discovered the Somatic Experiencing™ approach as created by Dr Peter Levine and I love how it integrates mind and body in how it makes sense of human experience. It draws on traditional wisdom underpinned by modern neuroscience and offers a wealth of insight into how to support the natural regulation of our mind-body .

I am a qualified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner™ and completed my three year training through Somatic Experiencing Internationale in October 2021.

I am co-founder and director of Mandala Consultants CIC, a small social enterprise based in Glasgow providing training, consultation, counselling, facilitation, supervision and community development work to individuals, workers, organisations and communities affected by trauma. We have a small service that provides counselling to refugees.

I have been awarded honorary lecturer status at Glasgow University school of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing

I love working as a counsellor and supervisor and I balance this with a range of interests inside and outside of work. I spend a lot of time in nature and by water. I enjoy movement and physical activity as well as a long term daily meditation practice. I am interested in matters of spirituality and questions such as 'who are we?', ' how do we find meaning in our lives?' 'what brings us alive?' and 'what matters when we approach the end of our lives?'. I find that including playfulness and humour in my life is essential.

I am available for appointments on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday daytimes, with face to face appointments on Tuesdays am and pm and Wednesday am only. It is rare that I am able to offer sessions outwith these times. My working pattern and commitment to ongoing personal and professional development means that there is one week each month when I am not available for therapy or supervision appointments,
